Digital Communications and Remote Rig

Getting ready to set this thing up for my dad to use my antenna system.

He was asking if we could hook this up for digital communications too.

I said that I did not know.

Has someone done this using a Signalink USB Interface??

How is it done? Does the Signalink need to be at my house or my dads??
Can you give me step by step instructions to accomplish this?

We will be using HRD. His program and log will be on his machine.

Bob,

This is super easy to install. Just pretend that the control RRC is the rig. Plug the Signalink's
mic to the mic connector on the front of the RRC (I use the TS-480 cable and wire it that way).
Connect the audio to the speaker jack on the front of the RRC and adjust audio as usual.

Did a search for "Remote Rig setup for IC706"

Went to a Remote Rig page that seemed to have what I was looking for.

From reading this, all we nee to do to work digital is to remove the microphone and plug the Signalink into the microphone port with the CAT5 cable to RJ45 cable.

Is this cable different from the one described in the "Cable" section for connecting Remote Rig? (I think it is)

If it is different, is there anything special about it? Do we need to construct it?
How is it made?

Hi Bob,

That is what I wrote before 

Anyway, there are various cables available for the SignaLink, so I would build or buy one that has an RJ-45,
such as for the TS-480. Then set the red strappings for the TS-480 and you are in business. I don't know
much about Icom cables. If yours has an RJ-45, then there is no reason why you can't use that as well.

The diagrams are in the RemoteRig manual at the end of each section.

I need to run to the airport, so I don't have time now to look this up myself.

I make digital QSO's with IC-7100, RemoteRig and SignalLink. I have my SignalLink USB connected with a CAT5 cable to the RJ-45 mike connector on the control panel, that is at the control site. I strapped the SignalLink for IC-7100 RJ-45 connector as described on the Tigertronics website www.tigertronics.com/sl_wirebm.htm#ICOM and I configured the IC-7100 for audio output on the mike connector. No big deal. The IC-706 can most likely be used for digital QSO's in the same way.

Pity a SignalLink is required. The control RemoteRig box should include a USB audio sound card. Much better would be if the USB-port on modern radios could be remoted from the radio to the control RemoteRig box, but I have understood it is not that easy to copy or remote an USB-port over the internet.
