RRC1258 & Kenwood TS480HX.
« on: 2013-02-26, 18:35:26 »
Greetings,

After setting up a TS480HX with a RRC1258 (S/N control 34xx and radio 34yy) on the local network, when pushing the "PWR" button on the faceplate, the radio starts normally.
Receiving on the radio sends the audio normally to the faceplate loudspeaker and works fine.
When pushing the PTT on the mike, the loudspeaker is muted, but the radio does not switch to transmit and the LED on the face plate remains green in state of turning red.

The serial number of the radio is 911000xx, so the "new" configuration of the jumpers was used, as per revision A28/02Feb2013 of the manual. As a verification the "old" configuration was also tested, without success. All cables and connections have been verified.
And still all we can get when trying to transmit is muting the loudspeaker, but no switching to transmit.
Firmware of the RRC was updated successfully to version 2.68 and bootloader to 1.8.

Any suggestion ?

Tnx for your help,
73 de Philippe, AC7JF.

Philippe,

I would say that you have a strapping that is not making full contact in its socket.
This is very easy to do if you insert them by hand. I always had problems until I
found a better method: hold it with needle-nose pliers just above the edge of
the insulation and slowly push straight down until it sits.

Take a look at them again to see if this is indeed the problem.

Philippe,

May very well be a stupid suggestion:
Is "TX inhibit" activated in the TS-480?
(menu item #55)

If the Control-RRC mute the speaker, then the straps are OK in the Control-RRC. Check the red straps in the Radio-RRC with an ohm meter.

The different settings base on serial number doesn't have any effect on the PTT function, it's only on the sensitivity for RFI.

Tnx dear OMs for your suggestions. Finally found the culprit : the cable between Aux/Mic on the Radio RRC and the TS480 base was deficient. Put a new one and it works fine.

Problem solved !
