CW keying lines as general use switch control
« on: 2010-11-16, 05:51:43 »
Im looking at using the CW keyer lines for general use switch control, to control 2 relays at my remote end, can the keyer out support switching a 12 volt relay @ 100mA coil current?
Also comferm there are 3 bidirectional keyer lines, for general use if not using CW keying function?

Hello Frank,

I had a try at this but it seems that it is a bit of an ask...

However, I used a 5v single C/O contact reed relay (very low power) and a small amount of series resistance to cope with the 8V from the box and then used this to switch a high current relay for turning the rig on when the control is connected. Works great. Put a diode across the larger relay coil to avoid reducing the life of the reed relay contacts.
