IC 706 RX cutting Off after first PTT of Radio

Hi,
I am just  setting up the remoterig to a ic-706. I got it working for the most part. However, when I push the PTT on the radio, the Receiver cuts off. If I push the PTT again, I hear a brief rx hiss and then rx is gone again. Here are my:

Since posting I attached the radio to control directly thru the ethernet jacks and accessing the 706. It turns ON but still has the rx audio cut off after the first ptt.
 
I can attached the head to the radio and it works fine and I can attach the complete cable between the head and base and it works.
 
So something between the boxes is cutting the audio.

I feel really stupid I  had a speaker plugged in at the back of the 706's base. I didn't put a speaker on the front of the head. So, when the first ptt occured it shut the speaker on the rear of the base off and opened the speaker on the head. Now when I plug into the head, all work fine. So if it happens with someone else, you will know hte quick solution.
