NEED HELP!! Kenwood TM-V71 setup NOT Working
« on: 2014-03-23, 09:11:54 »
I used to have ICOM IC-706 as remote and latest I decided to to use V71 for V-U remote.

I changed jumpers on both RRC's and I downloaded latest SW 2.78

I made new cables for the radio and panel and I checked all of them with my multimeter were ok.

I selected Radio V71 and baudrate 57600 and connected both units in my local network to test.

On Rado RRC I put for sip 192.168.1.228:8080 and tried to turn on

Doesn't work. Pressing ON, on radio nothing happens . Not even a strange sound I had before with IC-706 when network was off.

I can see both RRC's to my computer via network if I put the addresses

I tried in panel RRC auto connect ON .then after reboot both RRC's had yellow led on and a beep came from speaker but no display...

In radio status now is

Probably the cables or the settings which are wrong. No red straps needed to make it work, they are only for the mic. Be aware that there is schematics both for TM-D710 and V71 in the same chapter and they are not the same

I double checked both cables in radio and panel RRC for connectivity or short and look correct as the diagrams in manual.

In settings I have selected program mode 5 (Kenwood TM- V71) in both RRC's and 57600 baudrate.

Radio settings

Program mode   5
Sip password
Sip contact   192.168.1.228:8080
Auto connect   no
Audio quality   2
Codec out gain    255
Codec inp gain    18
Codec inp HPF Hz 163
Codec inp preamp   yes
COM0 baudrate  57600
COM0 data bits   8
COM0 stop bits    1
COM0 parity   0-off
COM0 Program mode 3 char timeout   2
Use USB Com Port as COM0   no

Still not working.

Again if I select auto connect the units are connected without any further controls or display.

There is no port number in the SIP contact! Take the ":8080" out!

Ok Mitch,

My mistake, but I removed extension port number and still not working with power on button of V71.

I am wondering why the units are connected when I switch to "Auto connect" ? (Status on radio site then shows connected) and in panel shows (No radio)

Does it mean that cabling is ok but some parameter is bad?

I really dont know what to check. First time I face such difficulty to make a radio work with remote Rig hi hi.

Any idea what to look next?

Auto connect should not be used

You can email me exported settings html from both units so I can take a look at them

I finally found the problem at AUX/MIC red wires at control RRC.

PWR (5V) was one pin misplaced as a result the remote was not working

Mike helped me a lot by emailing me several suggestions about where to look for this issue.

I appreciate Mike for your kind support

All now is working as it should

73's to all
