Kenwood ARCP and find Com Ports for RRC Micro
« on: 2016-01-25, 21:58:27 »
I had a working setup using my Kenwood TS 590s driven by the Kenwood ARCP through the RRC micro. But it has stopped working (I think as part of upgrading all the software to the latest versions -- Windows 10, ARCP 2.02 and RRC Micro to the latest. The RRC micro will easily connect to my remote station but the Kenwood software does not see the available com ports... so it refuses to connect such that I can turn on and operate the radio. Ideas anyone?

Is anyone successfully using the current ARCP and RRC micro connection? What are your settings and tricks?

Thanks

OK so I have spent a bunch of time on this. It seems that the Driver Installer and ComOn programs in the installation are both incompatible programs and therefore fail to set up the RRC micro and accompanying software to work properly. The RRC micro shows up on the device list as only a sound device and no com ports open. This is in Windows 10. I think the install tries to get driver files from Fabula Tech which are not there... and I think the Com on program is trying to use the RRC micro which fails because those drivers are not present.

Perhaps there is a way to mail me the proper drivers for the device.

What you are describing sounds like what has been fixed in RRC Micro 1.8.2 found at http://www.remoterig.com/wp/?page_id=93. But since you are using the latest RRC Micro version(=1.8.2) that part should work.

It might be worth having a look at http://www.remoterig.com/wp/?page_id=3200 in case something has gone wrong with the (virtual) com ports.
Always include type of hard/software and version when asking for support.

OK it is still failing.

When I open the standard Wiindows device manager SOMETIMES I see the three com ports with diagnostic that they are not operating or getting any resources. The driver them seem to be using is a Fabula Tech 32 bit driver,

When I try to run the Microbit Virtual Serial Port Driver exe file found in the 1.8.2 download it gets a diagnostic that the installer was interrupted before the driver could be installed. After I run that it seems I can no longer even see the com ports.

My diagnostic file from running the Microbit device manager is:

And while I do not understand why all this is happening, I can not see any com ports now even though the device is attached. I think what happens is that Windows sees an improperly attached device in the COM port and reconfigures it just to be an audio device with Microsoft drivers. When I open the Microbit 1274A device in the audio section is has been given Microsoft driver. If I try to update the drivers windows tells my it has the best/latest drivers. I think that is because I don't have the Microbit 64 driver in the file where ideally it would be installed,

Not a computer guy at all but I think the solution is to be able to download that driver and manually put it someplace where I can access with the driver updater.

The logs shows at least one thing which often causes problems, COM3 is "overlapped". It is used by one of our drivers and also by a Prolific Com port. However, the log should be longer than what you have provided, did you omit part of it on purpose? Or is it not there? Please check and post that part too and it contains more info needed.

You should not mix up the RRC Micro's virtual Com ports with the audio device found in the 1274A. Those things have nothing to do with each other. It still sounds as a problem with Com port drivers as such, sometimes a plain reinstall of the latest RRC Micro fails to upgrade the Com port drivers. Then it might be necessary to use the Microbit Device Manager program to force driver uninstallation and the reinstall RRC Micro.
Always include type of hard/software and version when asking for support.

I removed the other device on COM 3

When I run the MB Device manager I do see a diagnostic "Failed opening Com Port db, err code 5"

When I use the windows Device Manager and look in the Com port area I now see the 3 Microbit virtual com ports, but with the error symbols. Clicking on these I see a diagnostic "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware> The driver may be corrupted or missing. (code 39).   Checking the driver it is listed as Fabula Tech 1.7.1.0     9/8/2015    located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\ftvsport.sys

So my guess is that I need to install new drivers

Did you run MB device manager as Administrator? If not, then you will get the "Failed opening Com Port db, err code 5" as well as an incomplete log file.

The drivers you have are not too old, but something might have corrupted them. You could try this step from the FAQ page with all Microbit devices unplugged:

Uninstall all Microbit ports/devices. Answer ‘U’ on the question ‘Do you want to uninstall all Microbit devices automatically?’ followed by ‘C’ to do that. It is advised to unplug all Microbit devices before uninstalling all Microbit devices

Then reinstall RRC Micro, which will reinstall the Com port drivers.

If that does not help then I really would need the complete MB device manager log file, which should be created if it's executed as Administrator.

Ok that did it!

Thanks

Now trying to figure out how to get the Expert Amp controls working with the RRC Micro... but that's minor... I have them working through my RRC 1258 setup.
