TS-480 CAT one way
« on: 2016-02-15, 12:50:37 »
Hi everybody,
I am using Commander (DXLab suite) to control the CAT of my TS-480.
Radio RRC to COM2 and Control RRC using the USB port.
Commander controls the radio with no problem (frequency and mode) but cannot receive frequency from the rig, when I move the dial manually. There seems to be a problem in receiving data from TS-480 CAT, but sending is ok.
PC is running Windows 10.

Any suggestion?

That seems strange. The error message seems to say that the program is unable to read data, yet you are saying that you are able to control the radio, which means the com port is opened and used as such without problems. I do not know what to suggest besides trying to use a physical PC com port connected to the control RRC's physical com port.
Always include type of hard/software and version when asking for support.

Hi Jan,
thank you for your reply. If I connect the CAT serial to the COM2 port on the Control RRC, all is working fine.
It's the USB emulating the COM2 port that fails to work in one direction.

I am using writelog to control my K3 and I have exactly the same problem with CAT controll on  COM1
Control RRC is connected to PC via the USB port

I can not use COM2 because  it`s occupied with the K3 twin setup

I am also able to type in frequencies , mode and change bands etc,  but i can not read anything from the radio

I have tried to change baud rates on COM1 and other things but nothing helps
The CAT data is only coming throuh one way

COM0 baudrate   38400
COM0 data bits   8
COM0 stop bits   1
COM0 parity   0
COM0 Program mode 3 char timeout   2
Use USB Com Port as COM0   0

COM1 mode   7
COM1 baudrate   4800
COM1 data bits   8
COM1 stop bits   1
COM1 parity   0
COM1 rts/cts   0
COM1 terminator (hex)   00
Use USB Com Port as COM1   1

COM2 mode   9
COM2 baudrate   38400
COM2 data bits   8
COM2 stop bits   1
COM2 parity   0
COM2 terminator (hex)   00
Use USB Com Port as COM2   0

COM3(Extra) mode (USB-COMFSK)   0

Any ideas Jan or others?

Probably the same problem as with other log programs and Win10. The creator of Writelog need to upgrade their code in the same way as Wintest has done. There is no indication that Microsoft will fix their bug in the near future.

There is a Writelog beta available which might fix USB Com ports issues. I have been authorized  by the maker of Writelog to forward details about it and where to find it. If anyone wants to test it I will forward the instructions.
