Yaesu FT 857D | Not powering up remotely
« on: 2020-11-19, 15:11:19 »
Hi All

I have the V7 board, I am a new user to Remote Rig.

I have got the wiring and IP connectivity done, however when I try to power up the radio remote on the same Home Wifi network its not powering up. All I hear is Relay Click, and backlit for fraction of a second. When I press the power button the Yellow light becomes stable on the Aux Mix connector. But nothing else is happening.

Both the Radio side and Control side are independent power supply 12V 1 amp supply and the radio on its 25amps power supply. I also tried connecting both RRC units with 12V 18amp battery but no luck, if amps got less.

I have checked the inside wiring for Yaesu and jumpers they are as per the instructions. TTL Cable also looks good to me. In the status it shows Radio as OFF. Rest of the parameters do get up when I press the power button and yellow light is up on both units.

Once this is done, I would like to make it working 4G dongle as well.

Please help, I need to get the the units working.

Hi All

Update on FT-857D, not powering up as of yet!

I have changed the power supply as well the radio side with 13.5V 29amp, it has not helped.

When on the other end, I press the remote head power button, there is quick blink on the button backlight and display and SIP connection establishes(the yellow Light on AUX MIC comes up) however, nothing comes on the display of the mouth of the radio, as it should.

My RRC are on separate independent 12 1 amp power supplies.

I am sharing the status of RRCs, not sure if everything looks good. Though Radio status is showing off, even though Power is given to it -

Hi All

Can anyone using FT-857D Help me.

I have tried 3 independent SMPS power supply, but its not helped. I have used MFJ 25amp, MFJ 40-45amp supply, Commercial Grade Meanwell 29Amp supply.

In all cases, on the Radio Front panel/mouth there is blink of backlit and on the radio side, there is relay click, but nothing happens other than that. Post that if I press power up or down, all is happening quietly is Yellow light going up or down respectively when I toggle. But nothing else no other clicks or anything.

I tried using Mobile Android App, it keep doing relay click click like a loop. Not sure its normal? I have tried from home LAN network as well outside Mobile 4G network. Same results.

I have checked continuity via multimeter,  the TTL to Radio mouth and TTL to Radio Base connectivity, all contacts are good. Also checked the straps and jumpers, all looks to be good as per the manual instructions.

Regards
Karan

Can any help me with their Yaesu FT-857D working hardware setup, what all you are using both sides, which is working for you 100% flawlessly?

Plus any special settings on the RRC level if any?

Would appreciate your support.

Sure Mike. I will share with you the required details.

As I was not getting success with FT-857D. I also have TS-480 so strapped the jumpers and made its settings as per the instructions, no additional cables I had be made, it working like a charm in the first go. Though I haven't had any QSO as just did config few minutes back, as I write this message.

If you can help me with 857D, that will be awesome. I tried my level best, but no luck. As now I have changed the jumper straps for Kenwood TS-480, not sure if the HTML settings export will come all ok, when I go to the Yaesu Profile?

Is there a picture of thecorrect jumper setup for a FT-857D? The one on page 157 of the manual has totally confused me, it shows 5 jumpers in place but the table only says JMP3 should be connected.

Or do I just use these 2 headers, and are they interchangeable?

Those PCBs replaces the red straps. They are the same in both units, look in the manual which way they should be located

The black jumper should be set as shown in the manual, Jumpers and straps are different things
