Hi,

Is there perhaps broken wire? Can you measure volts on the device terminals?

Is it a 2.4GHz hotspot?

Configuration, RRC 1258 / RRC hostname in router
« on: 2021-03-02, 04:13:48 »
My RRC is identified in my router by the mac address. This is not very easy to identify amongst many other strange names in the list. Is it possible to make a configuration in the RRC so the router identifies it by a simple hostname?

Hi,

Is is possible to see any kind of history regarding the webswitch activity like restarts, or switching, perhaps even log in activity?

Thanks

Hi Dennis,

It looks like you've ruled out a network issue but you've given us some new info that's interesting.

I assume you're only changing one thing at a time so what you've described seems to point to your RRC control (please confirm)? Considering the only difference between yours and the loaner is the WiFi board, I wonder if it's a wall wart issue? Can you confirm the RRC supply does not sag when you switch between your RRC and the loaner? Can you pull the WiFi board out (long shot) and test again?

You say audio oscillation and pegged ALC on PTT. Is it band dependant? What if you tun the MIC gain to zero? Is there an amplifier involved?

Hi Dennis,

This is how I would go about checking things out.

You said you think the box "has developed" a problem. Do you mean it was ok and started playing up recently? What changed?

Jumpers ok? Confirm by reseating all the wires?

Critical listening - What is the distortion, packet loss/digital sounding or analog sounding? Might give you a tip where to look.

As mentioned by W1UE, is your audio configuration correct and have you tried making changes in this area?

What happens if you bypass the WiFi in both boxes by connecting an ethernet cable between them?

I ask this because I've seen bad performance over WiFi with certain routers. Anything changed in your network recently?

How are the two boxes configured for connection over WiFi? Are you using the local WiFi IP addresses or is it set up so the control box goes out over the Internet then back home? Can you switch the configuration?

I hope something in all of this will give you a clue or the answer to your problem.

Hi,

I think you need to understand how your cable has been made first. With a continuity test you will know how the pins are connected in your cable. Then you can use the manual (the pins on the RR header are described) to work out your connections.

I agree with Mike. I've seen this before. Check the switches on the underside of the microphone and also confirm you have power to it when plugged in to RRC.

Sounds like it's at the radio end. First thing I would do is go to radio site 2 and check the connections including the jumpers inside the RRC. Take a 'scope and see if there is any audio on the jumpers. Take a complete control system with you and confirm it all works with a cross-over ethernet cable.

Good new Joe,

We all know how good the Kenwood audio is normally. 40% MIC sounds more reaonable. I suppose that means you could use the MC60 too.

Hi Joe,

My 480 setup is in storage at the moment so cannot tell you the exact settings. 80% does seem high but that may be within normal limits. Perhaps someone reading this could check their settings?

Hi Joe,

I've had great audio reports from my TS480 using the default settings on the rig and the RRC - definitely no EQ - using the fist mic that came with the radio.

You point out the MC60, have you just started using it? You don't say how you are using the mic, are you speaking directly into it or are you a foot or two away? Personally, I have not had much success using mics at a distance and certainly the lows are lost once you move your mouth away from a dynamic mic.

If by chance you have a VGS-1 you can record your audio and use the MON function to listen to your TX audio. Don't forget the VGS-1 has its own MIC and PROC level adjustments.

I am looking at A38 version of the user manual. On P189 there is a schematic of the AUX/MIC cable. It shows the MIC signal is on pin 3 and the GND is on Pin 4. You should trust this.

There is no need for a transformer, there is already one inside the RRC.

If you get no modulation from your PC cable it could be that you are grounding the audio at the RRC. Have you tried reversing the connections at the RRC?
