I removed the other device on COM 3

When I run the MB Device manager I do see a diagnostic "Failed opening Com Port db, err code 5"

When I use the windows Device Manager and look in the Com port area I now see the 3 Microbit virtual com ports, but with the error symbols. Clicking on these I see a diagnostic "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware> The driver may be corrupted or missing. (code 39).   Checking the driver it is listed as Fabula Tech 1.7.1.0     9/8/2015    located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\ftvsport.sys


So my guess is that I need to install new drivers

And while I do not understand why all this is happening, I can not see any com ports now even though the device is attached. I think what happens is that Windows sees an improperly attached device in the COM port and reconfigures it just to be an audio device with Microsoft drivers. When I open the Microbit 1274A device in the audio section is has been given Microsoft driver. If I try to update the drivers windows tells my it has the best/latest drivers. I think that is because I don't have the Microbit 64 driver in the file where ideally it would be installed,

Not a computer guy at all but I think the solution is to be able to download that driver and manually put it someplace where I can access with the driver updater.

OK it is still failing.

When I open the standard Wiindows device manager SOMETIMES I see the three com ports with diagnostic that they are not operating or getting any resources. The driver them seem to be using is a Fabula Tech 32 bit driver,

When I try to run the Microbit Virtual Serial Port Driver exe file found in the 1.8.2 download it gets a diagnostic that the installer was interrupted before the driver could be installed. After I run that it seems I can no longer even see the com ports.

OK so I have spent a bunch of time on this. It seems that the Driver Installer and ComOn programs in the installation are both incompatible programs and therefore fail to set up the RRC micro and accompanying software to work properly. The RRC micro shows up on the device list as only a sound device and no com ports open. This is in Windows 10. I think the install tries to get driver files from Fabula Tech which are not there... and I think the Com on program is trying to use the RRC micro which fails because those drivers are not present.

Perhaps there is a way to mail me the proper drivers for the device.

I had a working setup using my Kenwood TS 590s driven by the Kenwood ARCP through the RRC micro. But it has stopped working (I think as part of upgrading all the software to the latest versions -- Windows 10, ARCP 2.02 and RRC Micro to the latest. The RRC micro will easily connect to my remote station but the Kenwood software does not see the available com ports... so it refuses to connect such that I can turn on and operate the radio. Ideas anyone?

Is anyone successfully using the current ARCP and RRC micro connection? What are your settings and tricks?

I should add that after getting an extremely high bill, Verizon doesn't report the Cradlepoint usage well as part of your Shared data reporting. You need to keep the radio to control link disconnected when not using the radio (literally click disconnect). Otherwise the link stays open 24/7 at about 1 gig per 6 hrs. Using a remote head radio breaks the link whenever you switch off the radio.  But a software control radio like the TS 590 needs you to actively break the link from the control box to the radio box.

I have everything working well with an 857 running with the remote head on mode 15. I see that yo can get Kenwood radios to run N1MM in such a set up. Is there a way to do this with the 857. It would need to respond to the detached head, but report frequency back through a second serial channel I suspect.

We solved this issue... the two 1258 boxes weren't disconnected so they blocked the the micro from establishing a connection.

Net, you need to break the existing connection between two boxes before you can call the radio end box from the micro.

Just a note to anyone who might be interested. I have got the TS 590S running remote using the Kenwood ARCP program. The control program controls every aspect of the radio and does it extremely efficiently. HRD does not provide the same functionality or speed. So if you have the TS 590 I highly recommend trying the (free) ARCP download.

My initial experimentation was using a Yaesu 857 with the remote head . That was easy but wasn't all the radio I wanted (no tuner, no receive antenna etc.) The 590S with ARCP is just as responsive... really a very nice solution.

As an update... I am getting terrific performance using Verizon 4G LTE... the setup is a Cradlepoint 4G Router and using a fixed IP address from Verizon. The fixed IP was expensive but not crazy so. The Verizon 4G LTE router was a complete failure... but the Cradlepoint works perfectly.

The Guide Setup for Kenwood in General in the Radio Settings shows Auto Connect set to No. I can only make everything work with this set to Yes. This opens the channel to the radio for the rest of the connection to be made.

Configuration, RRC 1258 / Setup for Fixed IP Remote

My remote location will have a fixed IP. When I get the IP data from my 4G router I see the following:

IP Address: 166.147.125.145
Gateway: 166.147.125.146
DNS Servers: 198.224.173.135, 198.224.174.135

If I do an ipconfig query on my computer hooked to this router I see what look to be LAN info:

IP Address: 192.168.0.168
Subnet Mask: 225.225.225.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1

Now I am anything but a networking guy. All this is new to me.

What set of numbers do I put where in the radio unit to set up for the remote operation. And what if anything do I nave to change since the assumed set up seems to be to use a Dynamic IP?

So far I have everything working fine on my home LAN, but I need to get the remote part of this worked out.
