Starting on 25 FEB 2025 I have problems conntecting to my remote station (with a public IP address) using the ddns.remoterig.com service. There is no answer to my connect request and I have to try several times to get a reply.
When I connect directly to my IP adress at my remote station everything works fine without any problem.

You are correct. I have to change in my control unit, serial settings, the COM3(Extra) port to either Mode-8,Winkeyer or Mode-10, Baudot/RTTTY. This way, the keying of CW or RTTY from a logging program such as N1MM+ will work while using the F-Keys.

If your provider does not set up a public dynamic or fixed IP so that the radio site can be reached from the outside the only solution is a VPN.

Have a look at this link from HB9BLA:

A comment, as you have solved your problem already:
I have a TS-480SAT and twin TS-590S setup.
But the settings for the keying of the IC-7100 should be similar.

In the Control Unit I have set:
Serial settings
COM3(Extra) mode (USB-COMFSK): Mode 8, Winkeyer
This way I can use the F-Keys of the N1MM log program to send CQ etc.
Windows assigns a COM Port number when you use the supplied USB cable. I use this port in the N1MM log program for WinKey and the F-Keys to call CQ etc. This works perfectly.

IO settings
IN0 Mode: Keyer
OUT0 Mode : Keyer
OUT1 Mode: I/O
OUT2 Mode I/O
USB RTS as PTT COM0
USB DTR as CW COM 0

On the Radio Unit I have set:
IO settings
OUT 0 mode: I/O
OUT1 mode: Baudot/RTTY/45
OUT2 Mode Keyer

I connect my paddle directly to the Control unit and at the radio Unit I have a twin 3.5mm jack cable to connect PAD/KEY with the KEY input of the TS-480. This input is for a straight key. You have a similar straight key input on your radio, see page 1-14 of the IC-7100 manual. In the keyer set mode, keyer type menu, choose straight Key , see page 1-13.

Configuration, RRC 1258 / Re: TS-590S Twin Baud rate
« on: 2024-12-17, 10:51:19 »
Hello Mike

point taken - I have set all Baud rates to 57600 (maximum possible). I think there is a small improvement. You are right, the problem is the latency over the internet connection. To make things worse, I can only connect via 4 G / LTE at the remote site and the 4G base station is very busy with cars driving on the nearby highway. No fibre optic installation in the near future (legal disputes). But it is better to have a bit of blinking during updates than nothing. My second station with a TS-480SAT is responding a lot faster so I use this rig most of the time. The receiver gets overloaded in the evening with strong signals and then it is time to go to the TS-590S, what a difference !

General discussion forum / Baud Rate for TS-590S twin setup

I have a TS-590S twin setup. The Baud rate in the manual is 19200 Baud. What is the maximum Baudrate giving good results ? On the TS-480 it is 57600 Baud on COM 0.
Is this an option ?

Configuration, RRC 1258 / TS-590S Twin Baud rate

I have a TS-590 Twin setup with a internal Baud rate of 9600 Baud. So far. the response from the TS-590S twin setup is very slow.
The COM0 setting for the TS-480 is 57600 Baud. What is the maximum practical Baudrate for a TS-590S Twin setup ? In the manual, page 209, 19200 Baud has been selected.

Hello Juha,
I have a TS-480SAT setup and, in parallel, a twin TS-590S setup.
I use a Netgear Nighthawk mobile Router with 4G/LTE.
Both RRC-1258 MkII setups work fine with the Firmware 2.95. / Bootloader 1.10. I work CW for most of the time.
I can configure the COM3(Extra) serial port to either serve as a Winkey for CW or for RTTY to key my TRX with FSK.
This is very handy with N1MM+, F1 sends CQ, F2 the report etc.
For all of you having problems with the setup, please have a look at my screenshots here:

Some screenshots might be useful for your K3 setup as well. I hope this might help you.
You can send me a e-mail to hb9bjl@bluewin.ch .

Optimizing for jitter and packet loss on 4G/LTE

Don,

This is my 3G/4G checklist which may help you:

3G Checklist
------------------
Try reducing your bandwidth to a minimum and changing some parameters to compensate
for a poor line. Here are some tips:

1) These are important:
- audio quality to 0 (half the bandwidth of codec 2 and more than adequate for SSB & CW)
- turn continuous RTP on or set RTP to continuous (depending upon firmware version)
not working with N1MM, double Sidetone if set to Continous.
- If using the K3 Twin or Yaesu with a second receiver, then turn off "audio dual-rx" on the
radio RRC under the radio settings. This doubles the necessary bandwidth if on.

2) Play around with these 3 until you are satisfied:
- increase rx jitter buffer to min 12+
- increase rx jitter delay to min 10+
- audio packet size 20 or 40

3) Also, make sure that serial ports COM1 and COM2 are turned off if not used,
or that either being used is set to the minimum bps necessary to handle the serial
communication. For example, use 4800 for CAT on a rig like the TS-480 and not
a high speed like 57600, since the higher speed is completely unnecessary.

UNQUOTE

I hope this helps you.
Audio Quality 0 is acceptable for me for HF SSB & CW. I don't need FM sound quality.
I am using Remoterig with a Netgear Nighthawk M5 mobile Router over 4G with an IP visible from outside and port forwarding.
The DDNS server at Remoterig works very well and is much more reliable than dyndns.org.
If I want to move to Zerotier VPN I will probably exchange my router for a Teltonika RUTX14. It has a ZeroTier client embedded.
A GSM base station is near the radio site. Becuse of an insufficient amount of channels I downgraded from 5G to 4G on the advice of a technician of the phone company.

Moin Mike, what I was trying to say: So far I had used an adapter that has a Sub-D socket at one end of the cable (connected to the CAT interface of the TS480), and a USB plug at the other end that went into the PC.

If I now use the RRC-1258MkII and want to continue using this CAT-USB adapter, I need a remote cable with 2x 9-pin female (that's how the manual describes it and that's what it looks like) from the TS480 to the remote RRC. But here on the Control RRC-1258 a gender changer is needed because COM2 is female, my USB cable is 9pin female.

Right?

Hello Michael,
install the Microbit Remoterig setup manager on your PC and use the supplied USB cable at the Remoterig control unit. At the radio unit you need to connect a straight RS-232 9 pin f - f cable between the COM 2 port at the radio unit and the COM port on the TS-480. My setup works perfectly.

Hello Dave

here is a bit more on the subject:
https://www.remoterig.com/forum/index.php?topic=7930.0

My settings:
Radio settings: audio quality: 0 - alaw 8 kHz (sufficient for my use in CW)
Advanced settings: RX buffer size: 16, RX jitter delay: 15, Audio packet size 40 (ms)

I wonder if the IP type pf service setting (default: 0) may be optimised.

The TS-480 setup has a lot less interruptions than the my second one with twin TS-590s (IMHO a bit disappointing..)

I have my RRC-1258 on the radio site connected through a Netgear Nighthawk M5 Router (no landline / fibre available). I have downgraded it to 4G (LTE), recommended by my provider. When using 5G I had way too many interruptions. At my radio site the 5G has only one channel and it is congested. I still have some audio interruptions with 4G but a lot less in comparison.

Is there a possibility to fine tune the settings ? In the advanced menu the IP type of service is set to 0. Can this be improved with a different setting ?
The audio quality has been set to 0 - alaw 8 kHz to conserve bandwith. The quality is sufficient.

Using a twin TS-590S setup resulted in much more audio droputs. The TS-480 is behaving a lot better in this respect, possibly generating less traffic but the receiver is worse in strong signal envoronments.

Any help is highly appreciated.

Configuration, RRC 1258 / Re: WINKEY USE
« on: 2024-04-02, 14:14:11 »
Hello Nodir
on your Radio Unit: Keyer settings: PTT activated by Keyer: Yes, PTT delay ms: 10
on your Control Unit:
- Keyer settings: Enable
- Serial Settings: COM3 (Extra) mode (USB-COMFSK) : Morse-8 Winkeyer
- I/O Settings: IN0 mode: Keyer, OUT0 mode : Keyer
You must use the provided USB cable. In your Windows Device Manager the following is shown:
RRC1258 COMExtra (COMxx). Use this COM port in your Logging software (N1MM+) for the Winkeyer:
Config -> Config Ports, Mode Control, Winkey -> Hardware : COM11 tick CW/other -> tick Winkey.
N1MM+ will then send CQ etc. correctly to the Radio Unit. I can send you my printscreens if you like. FSK for RTTY can be configured as well, it needs a connection between the radio unit and the FSK input of the TRX.
