I have been using RRC-1258s with K3 twin for more than 5 years without any problem.
A month ago, all of sudden, the keyer stopped working. It produces dots properly but not dashes. The speed of dots can be changed with the CW knob in the front panel.
Restarting device does not cure the problem. Other than connectivity between my paddles and PAD jack, which I think is OK, what would be the possible cause of this issue? How can I cure this problem?

I have Keyer settings as follows;
Enable yes
Iambic Mode-B
paddle reverse Yes
weight 30
Side tone 500
Side tone -db 50
Lf delay 100
key delay 50
Speed pod min wpm 15
Speed pod mix wpm 40

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mitch,

Very glad you are still in the forum.

I am sure that the physical connection between RRC and K3-0 Mini is OK because I can hear CW side tone at both ear.

I went through config menu of K3 manual again and again to find out items associated to audio output. SPKRS is the one that cause the problem. The audio at right ear resumed when I changed SPKRS from 1 to 2. The K3 manual says "Set to 2 if using two external speakers. I am not sure why SPKRS should be set to 2. Anyhow the issue solved!

Thank you very much again for your swift response.

I came back to Japan two years ago and have been active as JL1CNY.

Hi folks,

I have been using K3-Twind remote rig setup for the past two years and they are working properly. A week ago, I pulled out all the cables at control site (K3-0 mini(#8192) and RRC1258) for moving and put them back as they were before. Since then I have lost audio at right ear.

Here are the current setting

Control site
Serial number 6962
Version 7
HW 8
Software 2.95
Audio quality 8-Linear 16 bits 16kHz
Audio left/right ch swap No

Remote site
Serial number 7018
Version 7
HW 8
Software 2.95
Audio quality 8-Linear 16 bits 16kHz
Audio dual-rx Yes

Internet Connection
Control site  Ping 3msec Down 260M Up300M
Remote site Ping 11msec Down 200M Up 200M

Pressing sub button of K3 gives main and sub receiver audio together at left ear, still no audio at right ear. The problem persists with audio codec changed at both ends.  I think no mechanical failure of K3-0 Mini, RRC 1256 or the headphone connected to K3-0 Mini since changing Audio left/right ch swap to Yes gives audio at right ear with no audio at left ear.

Any suggestions/hinds/information to solve the issue would be greatly appreciated.

Jan,

It might be misunderstanding. The bottom line is that I really want virtual comport to work properly. I can not operate RTTY from my local site remotely without it. I have been and will count on Microbit guys to solve this problem.

When my PC is connected to my local 1258 via USB, an error log was created by DX Lab. I sent it to the author of DX Lab for his review. He replied me that "the errorlog you sent me contains no errors. What it shows is that Commander is properly sending commands to your K3, but receiving nothing in response". For you information, I only have the Virtual Comports created by Microbit Setup Manager on my PC.

Then I unchecked "Use USB Com Port as COM1" of Serial Setting tab of my local 1258,which is now connected to my local PC via USB-Serial cable(with FTDI chipset). The problem is gone and now DX Lab shows the frequency of my K3 properly.

The fact that DX Lab works properly with a real comport but not with a virtual comport leads me to think that drivers offered by Microsoft have no problem.

Peter,

I was about to send an email to DX Lab Forum to ask for the solution of this problem. Given that you have the same problem as mine, I am inclined to think that it should be a driver problem of virtual COM software. I am expecting that Microbit Setup Manager will be upgraded to include a fixed driver for Windows 10 soon.

Hi Peter,

I do have the same problem as your second one here. I have my PC connected to my local 1258 via USB, which is installed DX Lab instead of HRD. After upgrading from Win 7 to Win 10, the frequency is not shown in the panel of DX Lab or DX Lab does not follow the change of my K3 Mini. Strange enough, however, DX Lab can change the frequency of my K3 mini.

Mitch,

After I upgraded Win7 to Win10, I came across the same problem I used to have before. Your remedy does not work this time.
Any idea to resolve. I am wondering if the driver does not work under Win 10.

Mitch,

Thanks for your advice. I followed your instructions, which solved the problem. Appreciated.

I also followed your instructions as to remap the COM numbers. Where can I find "show all devices" at the Device Manager? I looked everywhere for it but could not find it.

I have Elecraft K3Twin setup in my shack. At the control site, I have a K3/0 Mini connected to RRC-1258. I also have a computer connected to RRC-1258 through USB cable to run rig control software such as N1MM and DX Lab.

Those software used to work well. But after I reinstalled Windows 7 and rig control software to my computer, I sometimes, not always, come across strange behavior of rig control software.

For the case of DX Lab, I can change VFO frequency by clicking arrow buttons of DX Lab. However, the frequency display of DX Lab does not change when I turn the VFO knob of K3/0 Mini. It seems the signals are sent only in one way from DX Lab to K3/0 Mini, not from K3/0 Mini to Commander.

Does anyone have any clue?

Thank you for your reply, Mitch. I closed N1MM first then restarted Control-RRC with no joy. I wonder if this could be handeled by the software.

I had thought to use a real serial port as you suggested but am still using a virtual com port. I need "Use DTR as CW" function for N1MM.

Configuration, RRC 1258 / Re-open Com Port Issue
« on: 2014-04-27, 21:44:32 »
Hi,

I just got a K3/0 Mini and RRC-1258s a week ago and have been playing with them since then. I is fun. I succeeded in a basic operation in LAN environment and am now trying to configure N1MM at control site. Thanks to W1UE,Dennis's thread, radio CAT and CW keying have been successful.

While N1MM is configured to Control RRC with USB virtual comport 1 (COM 2 at PC side), after Control RRC is restarted for some reason, N1MM can not reopen COM2 to talk to Control RRC. The only way I figured out to cure this problem is to restart PC, which is tedious and time consuming. My PC used Windows 7 Professional as a OS.

Are there any ways to allow N1MM to reopen COM2 to talk to Control RRC without restarting PC? Your help would be much appreciated.
