General discussion forum / Codan NGT to be used with RRC?

Hi all.

Studying how Codan NGT handheld controller works, I'd see it very possible to use the radio through RemoteRig units.

I understood that something has been tried in VK-land but at least here in the forum I find nothing. Anyone have some clue or pointers?

That was my first thought also but looks like the watchdog function is not even possible for the control end.

I will make a factory reset for the unit

Interresting detail.

Downgraded to 2.86 and had the IC-7100 connection up for a while.

The IP-address CWID repeats exactly every 2 minutes. Next test is with the IP-address CWID switched off.

I upgraded by K3 and IC-7100 RRC's to the new version recently and the control end experiences now of random reboots. Nothing special gets to the debug terminal and the only thing through which I realise the reboot is the IP-address CWID. The connection does not go down with this so maybe reboot is not a good definition. Also real reboots with unit killing the connection, shutting down and booting up happen quite often.

Once I was able to catch the network address details getting printed to the terminal output at the same time with the IP-address CWID but can't yet say is it related.

I will downgrade to see does this behavior go away.

Hi all.

Just to share with you a small piece of information how I manage to remoterig while travelling using either 3G/LTE or Wi-Fi through hotel captive portals etc.

I use a small Mikrotik mAP wireless router acting as a wifi client or 3G/LTE router depending on the use case. The router will do NAT so all clients 'behind it' will look like one as logged in to the wifi, enabling to login through captive portals etc. I have my laptop connected to the router with ethernet cable and I perform the logins with it, and when done, the remoterig starts working too.

In addition to all above, the mikrotik router establishes a VPN connection (SSTP, L2TP, PPTP, IPSec, all protocols supported) to my remote site where I have similar mikrotik router setup. In some locations VoIP traffic is blocked for some reason and thus VPN is the only possibility to use remoterig.

The Mikrotik mAP is a under $50 device. It is not intended for Your First Router but if you are capable of working with network gear, you'll be extremely happy with this.

General discussion forum / Remoting the complete frontpanel of TS-2000?!?

While crawling through the service manual of the TS-2000 radio, I found out that the complete front plane is connected to the rest of the radio through a single connection which appears to be an asynchronous serial connection.

That made me think it could be theoretically possible to pass it throug the remoterig boxes!

Here's the single connection between the front panel and the rest of the radio;




The connection carries three different DC voltages to power the control head (5V, 8V and 10V), a serial connection (TXD,RDX,RTS,CTS), a dummy loop "panel connection check" which is a signal which is grounded in the other end and few reset signals which function are not know yet (RES "Sub CPU reset signal" and PBCK "Sub CPU buck up signal")





When I get my TS2000 down from my remote site, I will look bit closer to this connection to see would it work through the remote boxes. It would be truly extraordinary to be able to remote the whole control panel of the TS2000!

Anyone else looking at this?

Would it be possible to have a dynamic DNS support on the RRC itself? That would be useful when using public dynamic addresses.

I'd vote for freely configurable parameters for the ddns update, so one could choose whatever ddns provider. I personally use dy.fi and it is very ham-oriented
