Do hardware modifications need to be done to RRC-1258 units before the radio will even turn on via LAN. Have wired but unable to control radio remotely.

Yes, the modification is done to replace the speaker output with a connection for the power on switch. And the power on switch is needed to initiate the SIP-connection.

I ordered the mic adapters for an IC-2820, then changed to the IC-880. Are the adapters the same or do I have to order new ones.

The mic adapters are not the same for IC-2820 and 880, there are some small differences. If you are interested to convert them I can inform you about what componets need to be changed.
