Hello,

I have a pair of RRC-1258 MK II, Software 2.35 and an ICOM706 MK II, its control-head and TRX separated 700 km.  Everything works very well for hours as it should, if everything has been switched off over night and they get reconnected by DSL the next day.  So the setup must be basically OK and please no advice to check cabling, port forwarding or else.  But, if I switch POWER off on the control-head, when I switch POWER on again, the display stays dark.  On the remote RRC-1258 the green PWR and yellow AUX-MIC are on, Status on both RRC is shown as Connected/Transfering. Nevertheless the display will not come up again, even if I switch off transceiver and both RRC temporaryly; unless under some unknown circumstances moving the tuning knob will bring it to life accidentially.  Should I refrain from using the POWER knob for swithing off?

Thank you

It looks like a bad contact but probably not in the cables
rather something in the radio/display.
I think it would be wise to connect them without
RRC's and see if it happens also but since they are separated 700km
you need help from somebody in that area
who also has a 706 and connect his display to check it out
but then only one part is checked.

Guy,

thank you very much for your reply; I appreciate your quick action.  I will return to the location of the radio RRC shortly.  There I have another identical ICOM-706 MK II.  I will let you know what difference exchanging of control-head and/or radio makes.

After the first week of tests my personal impression is that the RRCs work very reliable and stable for tens of hours (after the POWER-ON/OFF-problem I leave them running day and night) - until or unless some non standard event occurs where we can not expect the units to have dedicated error-handling routines.  Shut down of the remote TRX with the POWER-button on the control-head and leaving everything else running should not be one of these events that prevent an orderly resume of operation.

Guy,

I agree, bad contacts are the first thing that comes to mind and what has to be checked before we think about any more complicated causes.  The effect that pressing POWER makes the status of both RRC "Connected/Tranfering" but leaves the display dark is specific to my remote location and/or the nework structure of the two providers involved, Kabel Deutschland at the radio and Telekom at the remote site.

I moved the remote RRC and the control head back to the location of the radio, now the  display comes up immediately.  To make the test more realistic I used again two separate WLAN-networks and two different providers, Kabel Deutschland and German Telekom -- everything perfect.  I am very staisfied with the qualitiy of the remoterig.

There is apparently a two stage process, (1) establishing contact and transfering control information.  When this is completed you hear a beep tone. (2) transfering data for the display and audio to the speaker.

The problem is still not resolved.  The radio eventually shows on the display, but it can take some time.  Meanwhile the statuses suggest that the UDP protocol is not working.  Both RRC's are connected to their modem by an Ethernet cable. The modem at the control unit is a T-Home Speedport W772V by German Telecom.

Control Status

Control panel OFF
Radio OFF
Connect Status Faulty
SIP status Connected/transferring
Last SIP error None
RTP/UDP audio status Stalled (2)
UDP cmd status Error (0)

Radio Status

Radio ON
Connection Status Faulty
SIP status Connected/transferring
Last SIP Error None
RTP/UDP audio status Error (0)
UDP cmd status Error (0)

After pressing the power button on the display unit, the yellow lamp at the AUX/MIC connector goes on and a beep is heard from the speaker, it makes no difference if the speaker is plugged into the display unit or int the RRC-1258MKII.
With software 2.68 on both units the RRC's retry every 30 seconds and another beep is heard.

As I wrote earlier, with both RRC's at the same location, but connected to DSL of different internet-providers, there is no such problem.

Problem in my configuration when ICOM 706 does not come up again after POWER has been switched off: My DSL connection needs to be reset.  After switching the DSL modem off at the remote site and on again, the 706 responds immediately after pressing POWER on the control head.
