Dialup modem access for Remote Rig?
« on: 2010-12-19, 10:19:13 »
Hello,

I'm working on setting up an HF remote base at a site that may only have plain telephone connections available (no broadband access).  Is there a way that the RemoteRig system can be used to control the radio settings only (frequency, CW or SSB mode etc. but no speaker or microphone audio) via a dialup modem at the remote site?  Our auxiliary radio links will handle the speaker and microphone audio.

Thank you very much!

Hi

In theory it could be possible if you have a modem with ethernet connection, but it's not practical. The bandwidth may be enough for control data but not for audio and what is the benefit of using the remoterig boxes then, You can transfer serial data without them.

Instead consider WLAN links you can use Ubiquiti ( www.ubnt.com) Powerstation 5 for 30-50 km, We are using them here for repeater links over long distances and they work perfect.
