Icom 706 sleep timer / auto power off

Hi,

What is the reason sleeptimer / auto power off doesn't function with the RRC's?
I tried both the ic703 and r2500.

Any workaround?
Now my radio stays on all night and doesn't warn me to go to bed in time :-)

We don't see it as a big problem, and I don't know if it's even possible to solve

Hi Mike,

No, it's not a major problem.

It might be for people using GPRS datalimits (pay per mB)
,or in energy-saving remote situations.

Otherwise all running great now.

Hi,

I found a solution by simply putting a sleep-timer between controlhead-RRC and its power supply.
However it seems the radio RRC (and radio) keeps running eternally after this.

Is there a setting to make the radio switch off after a preset time interval when connection with the controlhead has been lost?

This might be an elegant solution for more situations (when a rig keeps transmitting?)

Hi

You can set one of the radio outputs on I/O port to be activated when the SIP connection is active. With this control signal you can drive a relay that turns the radio on/off. Be sure the relay can handle the current and voltages involved.

I build a small box that powers off 220V to the radio when theres no SIP connection.
OUT0 drives a small reed relay that drives a much larger relay (able of switching 250V / 10A).

You can use the same signal to drive another relay in order to switch off the antenna when the radio is not used.

Mike also returned to my other question, saying that the radio (blackbox) RRC switches off the radio after about 1 minute SIP loss.

The radio I use now (706) eats virtually no current in standby, so it goes to sleep when my control panel RRC is timed out by a simple sleeptimer.

You're solution is even better, CO2-wise :-)
