getting started
« on: 2012-05-05, 14:24:38 »
I have a remote rig 1258 set upand running. I bought a 1216H to control power in the shack. I can't find info needed like do I put my fixed IP into the IP slot as I did on the 1258?. What software on the distant computer to control the webswitch.  The switch is working FB on my LAN. Do I just put in the fixed IP or just port forward the existing switch IP?

Thank you
Jim

Hi Jim,

If this is running on the same LAN, just use the same IP address as you do for the other device with a different port number as follows:

- change the port on the 1216 to one currently not being used

- forward that port in your router

- set the target IP address or dynamic DNS address to the same as on your 1258, but follow it with the other port number, e.g. :1234

That should work just fine.

Thank you for the quick reply. I don't see how you have time to get anything done on your own projects because you're always ready to help us newbies.

I'll try your suggestions this afternoon. What do I use to control it from the remote location. The Microbit setup program or some other. I have the I Phone app loaded and can try it. All I want to do is to be able to turn the relays off and on and monitor their positions.

Tnx

Hi Jim,

That last one was from my Blackberry while waiting for the YL to buy shoes  ;)

You use any browser to access, just put in the same address you have as the "SIP contact"
you have in your 1258, followed by the port number like :1234

Let me know if you have any further questions. I will be traveling in Germany this week and then
in the U.S. the following two weeks, so I may not be as responsive as usual. Best to e-mail me direct,
then at least I get it on the Blackberry.

Glad to hear the good news, Jim!

I will not get to Florida this trip. I will be visiting family in Charlotte, then driving to
Dayton on Wednesday. The Sunday after Dayton we will fly to NY & NJ for a week.

Look for me at the Crowne Plaza, or at the show on the DARC booth (at ARRL Expo).
