RRCMicro 1.5.1 Installation problems on W7
« on: 2012-04-18, 09:24:14 »
Hi All,
by mistake, I began to install the new client on my PC (running W7) with the box (1274A) hocked to the USB port and the process get stucked; after some strange interaction the installation gets apparently to the end but when I try to run the program, the program window do not appear on the screen even if the process is running.
I've tried then to uninstall the client in  order to redo the correct installation, but I got a message saying that not all the component were uninstalled automatically and some one must be uninstalled manually.
At this point I'm not able to get through the correct installation process and the client do not work as said above.
Does some one in Microbit have a suggestion to get over this problem ?
I've tried to install the cilent on an XP computer and it works fine.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Enrico

Sorry to hear that you are having problems with the installation.

Its hard to say whats gone wrong in your installation but maybe a log from the installation could give us a clue.
If you follow the instructions i attached images and send the log file I will have a look at it and see if it gives any hints of what happened.
The instruction tells how to find a Setup log file and how to save it on you desktop. Send that  file.

Maybe you have cleaned you temp directory since the installation?
I such case. Retry installation and then check for the Setup log

That's not the right place. Did you write %temp%.  You may also try with %tmp%
If that does not work either there is a third option.  %localappdata%\temp

The log file does not indicate that something is wrong with the installation.

Quote
the program window do not appear on the screen even if the process is running
Maybe the program is showed in a position outside you screen.

There is a file which tells where the window should show up. This file is a bit tricky to find but here is how to do it.

The same way as before... This time type "%localappdata%\microbit_2.0_ab and press Enter.

You should see one or more folders starting with RRCMicro.exe_Url followed by a bunch of characters.

In the newest of those folders you will find one or more folders with version numbers.

In the folder 1.5.1 you will find a file called user.config.

Send that file to me. You can send it to me as a message

I have attached some images showing how to find the file

The config file was sent by email to roland@microbit.se.
Have you got it ?

Yepp... and I found that it was as I suspected.
The vertical position of the program was some 10 meters below you screen :)
I have sent you a corrected file.

I have no idea of the reason why that value was set to a negative random number at installation.
Will have a look at this error condition until next release.

Roland, after some quick preliminary test, the phone section works great while the CW keyer seems to have the same problem that appeared after the rel 1.2:
some keyed  character is transmitted two o three times randomly.
The TRX Manager is working perfectly !!
Thanks again for the great effort in multiple software Control support !
Best regards to all the team.

Perhaps we could log such a session when you got time for that and I maybe can get a hint of whats going on. Its quit easy to do. Enable Debug and make a call.
Use CW - keying until you get an error. Then disconnect and end the program. In your documents folder\RRCMicro there will be a log file called mblog.txt. Send that one to.
Don't forget to turn of Debug as it slows down the program.

Best regards to all the team.
Thanks :)
