Wifi card

Hi,

Happy to report my Wfi board installation went very easy with the pdf manual at hand.
I use it on the server location, so I placed the Wifi antenna chassis in the empty CW-pot slot of the RRC remote radio enclosure.
(this saves drilling ;-)

Wifi connection is very steady, no difference compared to ethernet link.
Radio and RRC are now galvanically seperated from DSL/router/etc. resulting in much reduced ethernet carriers and data warbles.

One thing is unclear to me with the latest FW:
Are wifi settings also stored per radio profile?

It seems if I choose another radio profile Wifi link is lost after reboot.
It would be nice if there were a 100% fool proof link re-establishment when changing profiles.

(Btw power down gives perfect reconnection)

Yes, wifi settings are stored per profile. You need to have the right wifi setup in every profile you use.

And wifi-card nr2 in use!
Both control and radio RRC are now "wifi-ized"

Connections are totally robust even at lower wifi signal levels and distance-range of the modules is very good.
Totally happy with this solution!

There is one little thing still unclear:
How do I manage wifi per profile?
It seems wifi configurations are stored only in the default profile.

I first selected a profile in the Microbit Setup Manager, in this profile I chose a wifi connection.
After reboot the RRC is back in default profile.
When I again select my profile of choice, it does not contain my wifi selection and connection is lost.
For now I decided only to work with the "default" profile and completed my settings in this profile.

Good to see wifi antenna is now included!
People are astonished I work the whole world on just that little rubberduck ;-)))

Paul,

Yes, your observations are correct, currently the WiFi settings can only be stored in the default profile using the Setup Manager program. It is however possible to use the web page interface if you want to use profiles. Just remember to double check the WiFi settings before applying/restarting the device.

One remark  about the wifi functionality:
It would be good if the RRC would somehow return to its last state,if wifi connection  is lost.

This to avoid loosing connection to your remote station on far away tropical island ;-)

(Though I think any excuse there might be to go to an tropical island could be handy, hehe!)

I meant that if you are editing settings in the webbrowser, and by mistake loose wifi connection, the RRC would automatically switch back to its last working connection and call home...

Aha, like Windows "last good known configuration". Sure would be a nice thing, though rather difficult to add.

Save it for the first Remoterig station on Mars, a couple of years from now ;-)
