Bug in ver. 2.42 and Kenwood TS-480
« on: 2011-10-02, 07:16:48 »
I am helping setup a contest station at KP2B and today we did lots of prep work here in Florida. One problem we found that took us hours to find is a bug in the firmware using a Kenwood TS-480. When we connected internally, there was a loud noise coming thru the audio stream, even though it was connecting and normal audio was passing. I took us hours ruling out all kinds of scenarios, and we even connected to my TS2000 and TMD700, which worked ok. It was only when we configured the TS480 that the problem showed up. We reverted to ver. 2.40 and now works perfectly. We never tested 2.41 with same scenario.

It is a pity it wasn't 2.41 you happened to compare 2.42 with as 2.41 includes a number of changes which it would have been great to know if they are related to what you see or not. Did you have USB connected or not when testing?
Always include type of hard/software and version when asking for support.

I am having a similar problem, which Jan is looking into.

Two questions:

1) Do you have COM2 (CAT) going over USB?

2) Are you using the radio RRC to route CAT to another device at the radio location?

These two conditions cause the same problem you described  in two stations I use under
firmware 2.41 or later. Pulling out the USB cable or not turning on the device (in my case
an SPE Expert) connected to COM1 causes the problem to go away.
