Hi Mitch and Mike

Yes, both are on Mode 7 and everything works well, but for the K3 Utility. It will not connect through any of the ports. Mike, I understood you could not update the firmware, but I thought the the utility program would work to upload macros etc. I uodated the utlity to the latest version as well and that still did not work. Not a huge issue, but I find it strange it will not connect over the CAT port when other programs work. Is is due to the K3/0 to K3 setup rather than K3 (Terminal mode) to K3?

Yes it works I did it just now, remember to connect to the virtual USB port related to RRC com1. In my case the K3 utility scanned and found the right port by itself. Also remember to set "use Com Port as COM1" to Yes if you use USB as I do.

Hi Mike,

I am using a "real" serial cable for COM1 for my K3 Twin setup. The CAT works with any other
product I tried it with, e.g. TRX-Manager, Win-Test, HRD, etc., but not with the K3 utility.

I understand from you that one must switch to the USB virtual COM1 port to make it work,
which seems a bit strange. I wonder why?

I don't remember if I have tested with a rs232 cable, but with usb it is ok.

OK. That worked. I too am using a real RS232 cable for Com 1. Switching to USB worked so that is useful to know.

Found this thread looking for the same answer, but TS-480/RRC-1258 MkII/N1MM

I can send CW through the Parallel Port, but cannot get the FREQ/MODE from RRC.
(I cannot 'click' the Bandmap either....I must set band/mode manually, a recipe for disaster.)
I am presently using Serial-Serial cable, but could easily go USB-USB mini if need be.

I like CW, I like Antennas, I give back with Public Service.
I know less than nothing about Computers.  I need step-by step help.
I suffer from CDO (like OCD, but the letters are in the PROPER order.)

The RRC provides neither parallel port support, nor does it provide band data. You
need to use CAT over the serial port to get the information your program is looking for.

I am using one of the Rs232 ports to pass the CAT information to my laptop for operating the TS480 remotely. When I try to run N1MM at the same time, it tells me that the com port is not available. Is there a way to pass the CAT info to two ports in the RRC? If so, I can use the second port for N1MM.

Hi Nizar,

Absolutely! Assuming you have CAT running on COM2 as designed (mode-4), then
just change COM1 to mode-6 and use USB com port as COM1 to YES if you are using
a USB cable (or leave as no if a serial cable, but be careful then with the pinout on COM1).
Then tell N1MM to use the virtual COM port that the RRC COM1 has been given. Note that
the port baud rate must not be identical to COM2.
