AUDIO HAS LOTS OF CUT

I USE 1258 MKII SW V 2.59 TO REMOTE CONTROL AN ICOM-706MKIIG.

LATELY I MOVED TO A NEW PROVIDER AT REMOTE SITE WITH DYNAMIC IP SO I TURNED ON DDNS OF REMOTERIG.

SINCE THEN I HAVE BIG AUDIO INTERUPTIONS ON MY VOICE DURING TRANSMIT.

MY SPEED AT CONTROL AND REMOTE SITE IS 2MB UPLOAD AND 512 DOWNLOAD

AT CONTROL SITE I HAVE THE PWR LED BLINKING ALL TIME WHICH IS VERY STRANGE.(LOOKS LIKE ETHERNET CONNECTION PROBLEM), BUT UNITS CONECT AND WORK EVEN WITH LED BLINKING

THIS LED IN THE PAST WAS STEADY..  THE REMOTE POWER LED IS STEADY!!

MANY TIMES THE SYSTEM DISCONECT AND CONECT AGAIN AFTER A WHILE OR I HAVE TO DO IT MANUALLY

ANY IDEA ABOUT THE ABOVE ISSUES?

The use of Dynamic DNS is completely irrelevant. If you changed nothing else, then the
problem lies 100% on the new internet provider.

Did you install a new router, or is the old one still being used?  If you changed the router,
then it may require some configuration (e.g. SIP ALG off, ports forwarded, etc.).

Is there a difference in the type of broadband technology being used (e.g. DSL, 3G, etc.)?
3G/4G requires some optimization, I can give you a list.

What port is being used for SIP in your RRC's? If 5060, try changing it to something else.

Make sure that RTP is turned on to continuous on both RRC's.

The problem is for sure on the provider or router. You need to locate that problem, but
the couple optimizations I mentioned may help a bit.

Hi Mitch,
I use the same router with same parameters on the remote site
sip port I use since before is 5062.
DSL is still the same
I changed today RTP to continuous on on both units but didn see any improovement.

Why pwr led is blinking on control unit?
Should I check something in router of control site?
I changed also this unit forgot to mention.

Hi Dimitris,

You withheld important information, since I made the assumption that nothing was changed
except the radio site provider.

That makes it harder to say where the problem lies. However, I can assure you that it is not
with the RemoteRig RRC's, assuming everything worked fine before.

I don't have the 706 running on my side, otherwise I would offer to check. I bought a 706 head
over Ebay for this purpose, but still need a used RRC to connect to it for tests. Maybe someone else
can try it out for you.

Otherwise, I can suggest taking your control RRC and 706 head to another location and trying it
from there. If it works, it may be the control side router. If the same problem, it is more likely
on the radio side router. You need to just use the process of elimination to find the bad router or
line.

 I AM WONDERING WHY PWR LED IS BLINKING AT  CONTROL SITE ALL THE TIME ?
MAYBE THIS IS A SIGN THAT THE PROBLEM IS AT CONTROL SITE?

This is a sign that the control RRC is not reaching the radio RRC. It usually is an
indication that it has no internet connection.

They are not connected if it is blinking.

Hi Guys,

Could it be he is using IP addresses and not DNS names? If he is connecting this would explain it, and the blinking LED means his DNS server for the RRC is not happy.

Hi Lee,

He said he specifically that he switched to Dynamic DNS, so I assumed that means that he entered the
new address in the control RRC SIP contact field. But you never know......

OK TO MAKE SOME THINGS CLEAR .

OF COURSE I HAVE INSERTED DDNS NAME IN THE RELATIVE FIELD OTHERWISE THE UNITS COULD NOT BE CONNECTED.
MY ISSUE WAS VERY OFTEN DISCONNECTS AND INTERUPTED TRANSMIT AUDIO.

I TRIED MY ACCOUNT ON DYNDNS AND ALSO I TRIED REMOTERIG DDNS TO SEE IF ANY DIFFERENCE.
I FOUND NO DIFFERENCE AND IN BOTH CASES PWR LED WAS BLINKING ALL THE TIME.

WITH RADIO OFF OR RADIO ON  LED WAS BLINKING ALL THE TIME.

I DID SOMETHING ELSE YESTERDAY...
I CHANGED LAN PORT TO CONTROL ROUTER FROM 1 TO 3 AND BELIEVE OR NOT SINCE THEN I HAVE NOT DISCONECTS AND TRANSMIT AUDIO IS UNINTERUPTED.
I WANT TO WATCH IT FOR SURE FOR SOME DAYS AND THEN I WILL LET YOU KNOW

NOW ONLY BLINKING LED IS MY QUESTION AND MAYBE HAS SOME RELATION THAT CONTROL UNIT LOOKS ON DNS NAME AND NOT IP ADDRESS?? REMEMBER ONLY CONTROL UNIT LED IS BLINKING.
CAN YOU ALSO GIVE ME A LIST FOR 3G/4G OPTIMIZATION FOR FUTURE USE?

Hi Dimitris,

Glad to hear that you found the problem. You didn't make it clear before that it was
dropouts, I understood the problem as a total lack of connect.

Note that it is completely irrelevant which DynamicDNS service (or the real external
IP number) you use. All this does is point the control RRC to the current external IP
address and has nothing to do with the actual connect between the two RRC's.

Here is a list of low bdandwidth/3G optimizations:

3G Checklist
------------------
Try reducing your bandwidth to a minimum and changing some parameters to compensate
for a poor line. Here are some tips:

1) These two are important:
- audio quality to 0 (half the bandwidth of codec 2 and more than adequate for SSB & CW)
- turn continuous RTP on or set RTP to continuous (depending upon firmware version)

2) Play around with these 3 until you are satisfied:
- increase rx jitter buffer to min 10
- increase rx jitter delay to min 12
- audio packet size 20 or 40

3) Also, make sure that serial ports COM1 and COM2 are turned off if not used,
or that either being used is set to the minimum bps necessary to handle the serial
communication. For example, use 4800 for CAT on a rig like the TS-480 and not
a high speed like 57600, since the higher speed is completely unnecessary.

Any idea about blinking pwr led?

Is that normal?

In manual says that when we connect ethernet cable it blinks for some seconds and then should be stundy.

Any idea?

Hi Dimitris,

This means that it does not have a path to the internet. That could be a configuration
problem in the RRC, but it could mean a physical problem like a bad ethernet connection.
Of course it could be a problem with the router as well. You just need to find the problem
by process of elimination.

The blinking led is irrelevant, as it indicates a lack of internet connection "just after the control RRC has finished booting" , and doesn't stop even if the connection is resumed
My led is always blinking,also with the remote end connected, because the RRC boots faster than my router. Nevertheless, connection works flawless.
