New RRC/Wifi set arrived
« on: 2012-12-11, 18:30:17 »
Hi,

Today my second RRC/Wifi set arrived for my TS-480SAT.
I would like to try a setup locally first before moving the radio body to my server location, but can't get things to work yet. Must be overlooking something...

Both RRCs are wifi-ized and they are visible on my router, I can connect to the webbrowsers and have made all my TS480 settings.

In the Client RRC I entered in SIP contact the LAN IP of the (local) server.
In the Server RRC I entered the SIP contact with the Client LAN IP adress.
All is within LAN.

Both green power leds stopped flashing so the RRCs "see" each other over Wifi.
I only get the dial tone when I push the TS480 power button.

What have I forgotten?

Hi Paul,

You mentioned that this is your second set -- You need to make sure that you are
using different port numbers for each set, otherwise they will get in each other's way.

Otherwise, I can send you my networking checklist if you want. It usually helps solve
these types of problems.

Hi Mitch,

Yes I already thought about separation.
I use different RRC IPs, webbrowser ports and UPD ports for my second set.

Is it correct for LAN that I simply "cross" IP adresses?
(so the Client and Server RRC are pointing to each others IP adress?)

If you have a doc for LAN setup: highly appreciated.

Hi Paul,

Sounds like you did it correctly. The control RRC should use the (in this case internal) IP address
of the radio RRC for the "SIP contact". No need to tell the radio RRC anything about another RRC,
it receives that automatically.

Drop me a short mail at dj0qn (at) darc.de and I will send you my checklist.

I sent you a PM Mitch.

A funny thing is that on the client RRC the status window shows "Control panel: ON".
Always, even if I disconnect the RJ12 cable...

My Icom RRC doesn't do this.

I sent you some information back, Paul. I hope it helps.

The control panel always on is a "feature" of the TS-480, just ignore it  ;)

Yes it's because the TS-480 control panel is always powered, but the IC-706 is not. It's depending of their construction.

Mike,

Is it also normal the Server RRC shows "control panel"  in status?
This is another difference with my Icom RRC set.

Or is that just Bootloader version?
(old is <= 1.7, new is 1.10)

Ah! Thanks, getting there :-)

Now, only to get the RRCs connected.
Looking at Mitch doc I suspect both Wifi RRCs just don't want to shake hands within my LAN.
Router is rather closed...

Will try WLAN this weekend.
This will be at the same location as my IC706 RRC, so should work.

Fwew! This was a tough one.
The "2.65 control>radio" bug was the cause.

I tried resetting the control RRC back to radio RRC with /setrrcdevice?type=radio,
but it didn't work. Later found out the reset string only works with webbrowser port in default 80.

Finally my TS480 says "HELLO" !

Thanks Mitch & Mike, wouldn't have found this myself.

The "/setrrcdevice?type=radio" or "/setrrcdevice?type=control" commands also work with other ports than 80.

I just tested it on my local RRC using this syntax for port 81:

http://192.168.136.39:81/setrrcdevice?type=control

and it worked just fine.

Jan,

I did exactly as you did with port 82 in URL but the RRC didn't reset.
Only after I reverted back to 80.
(a Wifi thing?)

Well, all's well that ends well ;-)

And you did not get any printout in the web browser either? WiFi should not matter since it is a simple URL fetch.
Always include type of hard/software and version when asking for support.

No, don't know what happened. First attempt (with port 82) I immediately lost contact with the webbrowser, while it was not resetting.

However, testing now again resetting indeed works with other ports.

Murphy again I guess ;-)

All running fab now.
