IO Settings - Control end switching?
« on: 2013-12-02, 18:20:20 »
Hello All

A few months ago whilst at my remote QTH in England I setup a coax relay using the IO Settings (I/O - Out 0 mode on/off0) so using a reed relay I am able to switch the coax relay on/off from the RR GUI.  I have been trying since to make a switch from the IO port at the control end but without any joy.    Can anyone please explain to me what I need to do to be able to have a switch to change the Out0 from on to off?    Do I need a circuit or can I use the wires from the control IO port.   The relay switches fine using the on off button via GUI but a switch in the shack would be great.

Thank you

Stuart

you only need a switch between IN0 and GND, You also need to set IN0=I/O in the Control-RRC and OUT0=I/O in the Radio-RRC

Thank you so much, didn't have the Out0 set as IO had it as on/off.  Working great now, thanks again

Hi there:

I don't really understand the I/O system. Is it possible to use one lane (to switch my remote pc) when you are using the internal keyer?
If is not possible, I can use a external keyer, but, how I must configure the I/O settings to have CW (with my external keyer)  and a pushbutton ( for switch on the remote pc) ?

Thanks, 73's

Hi

If you just want o reset your pc you can use OUT0 and control it from the web page. Set OUT0 to on/off then you can control the output from the web page by clicking on the Button. If you set IN0 to I/O in the Control RRC and OUT0 to I/O you can control it with a switch as you said, but I think using the webpage is better to avoid accidental reset of the PC

Hi Mike:

Thanks for your reply. I understand what you told me, but I prefer to use a physical pushbutton (I want to be able to do short and large pushes, in order to switch the PC On or OFF ).
Can I do it without affecting the internal keyer?

Thanks

Yes if you set IN0/OUT0 to I/O  you can use them without affecting the keyer

In the manual (page 89) you can see the I/O connector pinout. IN1 = pin 1, IN2 = pin 2 and IN2 = pin 4.  Is it a mistake? What pin should I use for IN0? I think is pin 4, that means I'm going to loose my straight/PC Key capability, Is that correct?

Thanks Mike

yes, there is only 3 inputs, then you have to use the web control of OUT0 as I described earlier

Thanks Mike for your help.

If I disable the internal keyer, and set all the inputs and outputs as I/O, I can use one Output as Key (using my own external keyer) and that way I would have 2 outputs available to switch ON/OFF two different relays. Is that correct?

Thanks

You can not work CW without the Keyer enabled, Just using the I/O functions will provide garbled CW if you don't have a absolut perfect internet connection

Yes, you're right.

I was trying it and it's very difficult. Maybe Could be possible with a external keyer with sidetone.

I'm testing what I have wired but the relation between Inputs (at Control RRC) and outputs (at Radio RRC) is not clear to me.
Closing IN0 (pin 4) to ground I have different results at Remote Side (looking at the status page):
with ON/OFF settings the output is at OUT2
with I/O settings the output is at OUT 1

Don't worry, It's clear. I was using the pad connector.

Thanks Mike
