USB Dongle
« on: 2010-05-29, 15:09:11 »
On one end of my proposed remote operation there is no wired or WiFi internet connection, however there is 3G CDMA.

I use this dongle for my computers:  http://pcdphones.com/view_phone_details.aspx?mcode=UM185AL&bID=141&sAct=0

It works well and seems to be quite fast.

Can I use this, and if so, exactly how do I connect to the RRC-1258?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi Glenn

You have to use a router in between. With European 3G  this is popular

I do not know exactly what type it need to be in US but Im sure there are similiar equipment.
Some models have built in modem so you don't need a dongle. One with built in modem and an connector for external antenna can be a good choice also. Also consider WLAN link. A Powerstation 5 from www.ubnt.com can be used for up to 50 km on 5 GHz

Thanks, Mike!

I ordered the Dovado UMR.   My temporary work QTH is 800 km away from my home station.
