Problem with 7100 operation !!
« on: 2014-07-22, 02:43:41 »
Think I posted this it the wrong place the first time......  I am having problems getting my 7100 to operate with 1258MkII and it has worked fine with my 706.  I changed the jumpers in both unit and have check 2 times to make sure they are correct and changed the baud rate from 19200 to 38400 and thought that was all I needed to do to get it to operate with the 7100.  The only thing I can do is turn the unit on and off .. I have no controls of any kind when unit is on !!!  Any idea as to what I have missed or done wrong ????????  Thanks !!!!!!

The IC-7100 is probably the easiest rig use as you only need standard cables. Check the red straps with a ohmmeter so they are not broken. Also check that you haven't turned the box 180 degrees compared to the drawing. The only difference compared to the IC-706 is the baudrate, but you also must have a firmware version which support IC-7100, so check that you have updated the firmware.

THNAKS for the reply !!  I checked the firmware in both units and they are 2.78 which shows on the web site as being current.  I just purchased the units about 6 weeks ago.  I also opened both units and checked the straps/jumpers again for the third time to make sure they are installed properly.  I only had to change 3 of them when going from the 706 to the 7100 and I also did ohm them this time to make sure there was no broken ones.  When I had them open this time I did see there is a RES button on them ... should the unit be reset after I made these changes for the 7100 ???  I did try operating the radio again and still only have the same ... I can only turn the unit ON & OFF .. I have no control or audio.

An addition ... I tried the reset and that didn't make any difference.  So still no operation of the 7100 other then being able to turn it On & Off via the RemoteRig !!

If  you  send me an email with the info I need to logn to and connect to your Radio, I can test from here to find out if you have the problem in radio or control side.

I'm having the same problem.  New IC7100 and new RRC-1258 MkII received last week.  Firmware is version 2.79.  Power up and down is the only function that works.  Both units are on the same LAN right now.  I can configure remote access to both units if that will help troubleshoot,

Hi

I connected to wb9ycz radio side from my IC-7100 and everything was working OK so I assumed he had some problem with the red straps in the control side RRC. Thats about the only thing which use to cause problem with the IC-7100. If you email me the info I need to connect to your radio-RRC I can do the same test for you.
But if you cant find any broken red straps or other setup error I start to think ICOM has changed something in the protocol, what firmware version do your radio have ?

I just checked the jumpers with an ohm meter, they are correct.

The version numbers of the radio are:
CPU M 1.03
    S 1.00
    C 1.00
DSP I 1.01
     D 1.00

I will configure my router to allow access to the radio but it will take me a day or two.  Right now both units are on the same LAN so I do not have port forwarding configured.

Have you found the problem ?
I updated the IC-7100 firmwares to the same versions as you have, and it still works perfect so, I guess you have som local problems, probably the red straps

I'm still having the same problem.  I put an oscilloscope on the data output line from the IC-7100 and it looks low, only swings between 0.04 and 0.84 volts between mark and space.  It goes to a 3.3V microprocessor in the IC-7100 control head so I think something is wrong with it.  Maybe I damaged it when I got the RJ-45 connectors confused.  It still works with a direct cable connection, though.

Is 0.84 volts enough voltage for the RRC1258?

Hi

0.84V for high is not enough for the RRC. If you measure when you connect the front direct to the radio, what values do you get then ?

About the same, 0.02-0.79 volts.  I guess I will try to build a level converter.  What do you recommend for a high voltage, 5 volts?  3.3 volts?

I don't think that's the right way to go. The IC-7100 must be broken in some way. The voltage levels should shift between 0 and 3-3.3V if you measure between pin 4 or 8 and GND.

Purchased new 1c-7100 and RRC-1258MKII two weeks ago.  Am having same problem while using local network.  Control panel turns on but no audio or transmit or freq change control.  Also panel turns itself off after about a minute.  Have double checked jumper wires and settings.  Don't know how to check the voltage levels from pins 4 and 8 to ground.  Has any progress been made by anyone?  Also don't know if this is related but should JMP2 be in or out inside the control box.  Page 23 of the manual says it should be in.  Page 101 says it should be out.

Hi

Yesterday I got a new IC-7100 and I found the same as KB8U. The levels on the data signal is lowered from 0-3.3V to approximately 0-1V.  I have also found the reason for it, ICOM has changed the hardware by adding a resistor which makes a voltage divider on the data output line. There are two ways to solve it.
1 .Remove the resistor, but it may void the Warranty.
2. I will make a level converter PCB which can be put in the socket instead of the read straping wires.

I need a few weeks to get the PCBs, but I will hurry up as much as possible.

I have asked ICOM about it, and I hope we will get information, telling us from what serial number this change was introduced.
