Identical Routers - ??
« on: 2015-02-18, 18:37:38 »
I use an old wrt610n router which now has failing 2.4GHZ Wi-Fi, so I get another wrt610n to replace it.
I set up identical parameters in the new wrt610n.
All seems to work, except I can not contact it with the RRC-1258 MKii.

The URL is http://"my ip address":81/

In  the Single Port Forwarding section of Applications and gaming I have :
External port 81, internal port 81, protocols BOTH (TCP and UDP),  TO  ip address 192.168.1.171,  enabled.  This is the same in both routers.

This works for the old wrt610, but page is not found on the new one.
What have I failed to setup?

Likely the new router assigned the RRC a different internal IP address through its DHCP server.

Just use the Microbit Setup Manager to find the new IP address and then change the port forwards to
this address instead of what it is now. Then it should work again just fine.

Please note the modification I made to my original post.  Doesn't this set it up as 81?
Using the working router at the host site, if I bring up MSM , I get a red "unknown disconnected" even though the 1258 is contactable.
The address 171 is for the rotor.

Unless you changed it, then it is still the same. If you use Setup Manager, it will call the web page up automatically.

Re: Identical Routers - ?? - new information

Well, I found when I changed  the router - keeping the same modem - my IP address on the internet changed!!!
I was unaware of this.  Comcast.
So changing to the correct numerical URL works just fine.
and xxx.ddns.remoterig.com:81 works just fine, as well as xxx.ddns.remoterig.com:2000.

The only thing that does not work is xxx.webswitch.se:81/ and :2000/
It worked in the past, but does not work with the new router.

As long as you use Dynamic DNS, it makes no difference if your external IP address is changed. That is
why we use that instead of the "real" IP address. Here in Germany, Deutsche Telekom changes the IP
address every 24 hours!

Again, all your problem is with the new DHCP server that issued a different internal IP address. To be able
to reach it, use Setup Manager to get the new IP address and then change the port forward in the new router for
TCP port 2000 to the new address. Then it will work just fine!
