Has anyone been able to use their RemoteRig RRC to do "real" FSK, not AFSK? I am
not a digital mode person, so I am not sure if this is possible.

I am getting involved in an interesting project that may use K3's controlled using
RRC's, but apparently FSK is a requirement.

Now that the RemoteRig developers have done a great job of adding an FSK virtual serial
port to firmware 2.41, can someone please try it out and provide feedback on how it is working?

I am not a RTTY guy, but I am implementing the use of RemoteRig for an operation where RTTY
will be critical, so I need to know how well it works and any other tips that one can provide.

I never received any feedback from anyone using 2.41 for FSK.

I need to install RemoteRig soon in a situation where this will be critical,

I haven't done it yet, I'll try it this weekend when I travel to the remote site, but from what I read, here are the main lines for my TS-480:

Radio RRC:
In I/O Setup you select one free I/O Out to FSK (Baudot 45). In my case I picked Out 0 (out 2 is in use by the keyer)

Control RRC
In I/O Setup in USB DTR as CW select COM FSK

Cabling:

You will need a cable from I/O terminal at the radio RRC (RJ45) to the Remote socket on the TS-480 (mini DIN 8 pin)

RJ45                           Mini Din 8 pin
pin 5 (Out 0) ---------- pin 8 (FSK)
pin 8 (GND)-------------shell

If you choose another Out number, use the respective pin in RJ45 (check manual)

As I said, this is from reading, no practical test yet. I hope I got it right. Let's see how it goes this weekend. I'll keep you informed.

I just finished to test my setup with FSK. It works !

Here's what I did ..

Control site PC:
- connect USB cable , you get 4 virtual COM ports
  RRC1258 COM0 (COM7)
  RRC1258 COM1 (COM8)
  RRC1258 COM2 (COM9)
  RRC1258 COMFSK (COM10) **

  ** as MMTTY only supports EXTFSK COM1 trough 8,  I had to remap COMFSK from COM10  to COM4 )

Control RRC :
- in I/O settings  - set USB DTR as CW - select "COM FSK"

Software :
- MMTTY (in Logger32) is set with Radio PTT option "DTR Keying" and Serial Port  "COM4"
- EXTFSK 1.05 - FSK Output - "DTR"   

Radio RRC :
- IO Settings - OUT1 mode "Baudot/45"

- IO RJ45 connector - Pin3  (Out1) ----- TS480 Remote mini din Pin 8 (FSK)
  IO RJ45 connector - Pin8  (GND ) ----- TS480 Remote mini din Pin 2 (GND)

I had my first QSO with NL7G, which pointed out I was inverted, although the radio was in FSK and not FSR, so probably I have to mark the 'Inv FSK" option in EXTFSK 1.05.

I have a doubt with your setup. You said:

But my TS480 manual says that Pin 2 of the Remote Mini Din is not GND but actually the common leg of the T/R relay. Is this correct?

you're right, but in my case I've also a cable that connects the rig to the amp, that is :

miniDin 8                     Amp
Pin4 (MKE)  ----------  Relay
Pin2 (COM) ----------  GND

So Pin 2 goes to GND at the amp side, that's why I used the same connection.

I made other QSO's in the meanwhile and I have to mark the "Inv FSK" in EXTFSK 1.05 in order to be copied correctly. (see my previous post)
( ... yes, I checked the "FSK keying polarity" (Menu 42) which is set to "OFF/Normal"  )

All in all, Remoterig are unbeatable Black Boxes.  SSB, CW, FSK ,CAT without computer , reliable and unmatched !

Thank you, the GND connection is clear now.

I was thinking I'd have to use one othe I/O outputs at the radio RRC to send a PTT control to key the radio, but that is not needed, according to your setup.

I am preparing my connections and will replicate your settings here.

Is EXTFSK 1.05 a file that is already in MMTTY or is there a file that needs to be in the MMTTY folder for that option to be found?

So no TTL converter circuit is needed as it would keying from a regular COM port going from the radio RRC IO to the radio's FSK keying input?

I see there is also a 1.06 version available.  I think I already have this loaded since the YCCC SO2R Box uses the same file.  But I will need to put it on my laptop for remote operation.

So no other interface circuit is needed, correct?  Or is a similar circuit to that shown on the link you provided still needed? (I don't know if this is actually done inside the RRC or not).

We finally got around to installing cables for FSK in two virtually identical stations, but two of us can not seem to
get things to work. The TS-480 always transmit a continuous tone. Here are the details:

Radio side:

cable:
IO RJ45 connector - Pin 6  (Out1) ----> TS480 Remote mini din Pin 8 (FSK)
IO RJ45 connector - Pin 8  (GND ) ----> TS480 Remote mini din Pin 2 (GND)
This is per page 74 of current manual

RRC:
OUT1: Baudot/45
OUT2: Keyer

Control side:

IO Settings:
- nothing changed (left IN0 as keyer)
- all remaining set to I/O or disabled

MMTTY set to use the COMFSK port. MMTTY settings are identical with RRC user manual.

RRC's are using firmware 2.50, user PC's have Setup Manager 1.11 and 1.13

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Remember that you can not use a standard stereo cable for Keyer to TS-480 if you also use FSK. The keyer input connector in the TS-480 is not a stereo connector and will ground the FSK signal. You must cut the wire to the middle ring or make a special cable.
